ESRC response to the 2007 Budget
For immediate release - 22nd March 2007 The ESRC welcomes the Chancellor's announcement of an early settlement for the science budget for 2008 to 2011 and the commitment to a significant increase in the UK science budget over this period.
According to the ESRC Chief Executive, Professor Ian Diamond, "This is good news for UK social science as it will allow us to make a major contribution to the key policy challenges facing the UK over the next few years such as environmental change, economic competitiveness and global security. We particularly look forward to enhancing our partnership with the Technology Strategy Board to ensure that social science research can have the maximum impact on UK business and industry, and to ensuring that social science makes a substantial contribution to the work of the new Public Health Research Board." It provides independent, high quality, relevant research to business, the public sector and Government. The ESRC’s planned total expenditure in 2006-07 is £169 million. - ESRC Society Today offers free access to a broad range of social science research and presents it in a way that makes it easy to navigate and saves users valuable time. As well as bringing together all ESRC-funded research and key online resources such as the Social Science Information Gateway and the UK Data Archive, non-ESRC resources are included, for example the Office for National Statistics.
