Strategic Advisor for Data Resources
This call has now closed. The following is for information only. The Economic and Social Research Council wishes to appoint a Strategic Advisor for Data Resources to lead in the development and implementation of a UK Strategy for Data Resources for Social and Economic Research (hereafter National Data Strategy) ensuring a strategic vision for maintenance and further development of the UK's data resources required for social science research. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership and exercise fundamental influence over the delivery of key data resources across the UK social science community. The post of Strategic Advisor will be a senior appointment based at an eligible UK Research Organisation. The post will be filled either through single appointment or, due to the breadth and depth of expertise required for the post, through a collaborative appointment of more than one applicant. The appointment is for 36 months. The maximum budget for the post is £700,000 at full Economic Cost (ESRC's contribution 80%) which is expected to cover the Strategic Advisor's salary costs, support staff and a range of strategic activities. Applicants are welcome from any social science discipline, but must be able to demonstrate a clear appreciation of data issues, a comprehensive understanding of current social and economic research issues and a strong commitment to innovative, interdisciplinary working. Applications for the post should be submitted no later than 22 January 2010 to the ESRC Office. Interviews will be held in London during week commencing 8 February 2010. It is expected that the successful applicant will take up the post on 1 October 2010, or as practicable thereafter.
