      CASE Studentships

The ESRC is committed to research collaboration between industry and academia. One way this can be achieved is through funding collaborative (CASE) studentships.

The 2009 studentship allocation will be operated competitively, open to all CASE-recognised institutional departments (in collaboration with a partner from any non-academic sector).

Two leaflets explain the benefits of collaborative research between academic and commercial partners and academic and public/voluntary partners.

      2009 CASE Studentships Nominations

Results from the 2009 CASE allocation exercise:

There were 246 applications marked in this year's competition, 47 were awarded new CASE Studentships. Below is the list of non-academic organisations that will be involved in supporting new studentships in 2009.

      Application forms:

You may submit a CASE nomination at any time, however if your intended start date is 1st October 2009 nomination must be submitted via the Joint Electronic Submission System (Je-S) by 4:00pm 30th July 2009.

Note: Applicants are to ensure sufficient time is allowed to enable the Supervisor and others to complete their parts of the application form before the cut off date.

CASE award allocation under 1+3 funding model

Successful applicants must nominate a candidate to undertake the studentship once the funding has been confirmed. Students interested in applying for one of these awards should contact HEIs directly or see the national press for studentship advertisements.

The ESRC wishes to stimulate continuing discussion on good collaborative practice in the important area of research training for students.

To this end, we have produced a 'good practice guide' in the form of a booklet entitled On the Case (MS Word), which highlights those acquired wisdoms and strategies which are most likely to contribute to the success of a CASE studentship (as well as the pitfalls to avoid).
