Guidance for projects
Current grant holders, and potential applicants to the scheme, may find the following documents and links helpful.
Data management plan
This anonymised data management plan (PDF, 25Kb), adapted from a phase 2 project, is a good demonstration of how to manage your ESRC-DFID data. This document can be used for new applicants to help design their applications, as well as for existing grant holders to further develop their data management plans.
Access to publications
DFID has compiled a list of programmes that provide open access to academic publications, particularly to researchers in developing countries. The programmes will be of use to both UK and international ESRC-DFID researchers, and those in the wider community.
You can find details of ESRC's Open Access policy for grant holders on the ESRC website.
The Strategic Advisory Team has drafted an Impact Strategy for the scheme, which helps to conceptualise what we mean by impact in the context of ESRC-DFID research. For the UK Research Councils, impact is defined as "the demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy". For ESRC-DFID, this contribution is in the form of alleviation of poverty.
The ESRC Pathways to Impact Toolkit has further information and tools to help you plan for impact.
