Resources for all postgraduate students (including Advanced Training Network)
This guidance is for all students, not just those funded by the ESRC. It provides information and resources for students who are applying for postgraduate funding and those who are already undertaking postgraduate study.
ESRC Advanced Training Network
Update: Please note that the proposed consultation on the Advanced Training Network has been delayed to allow time for as much information as possible to be gathered about available courses.
Our Doctoral Training Centres are opening up their advanced training courses in key areas of strength to all social science students who are registered for a PhD and based at a UK Higher Education Institution.
These have been incorporated with other ESRC investments providing advanced training, including the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) and Researcher Development Initiative (RDI), to create an Advanced Training Network for the social sciences. In total 400 courses are being opened up for the academic year 2011/12, and many more are in development.
These training courses will offer social science postgraduates the opportunity to access high quality advanced training both within and outside of their home institution, whether in their own discipline, a particular research method, or in a different area of research in order to develop new skills and knowledge.
We are supporting the opening up of this training by offering bursaries to DTCs so that they can subsidise the cost of providing their courses to a wider audience. Students will only be required to contribute a maximum of £30 per day (or pro-rata) for each course they attend outside of their own institution (or where their institution is part of a collaborative DTC, the collaborating institutions), with the DTC or other training investment making up the remaining cost. Places will be offered on a first come basis and may be subject to prior learning requirements.
To find out more about what advanced training is available, please visit the NCRM Training Database where you will be able to search for training courses by date, region and type.
ESRC Media Training
We run a number of media training courses, depending on your needs. For high profile programmes and projects media training is invaluable, particularly if you are likely to do live interviews in front of a camera or on the telephone. You can find the range of courses we offer on the ESRC Media Training Page
Resources to support your study
There is a wealth of research resources available from ESRC investments which may assist you in undertaking your research. This includes data, and advice, expertise and technology to utilise these data.
