HMRC and the ESRC have established a range of joint activities, including a programme of research on 'Tax Policy and Administration in the context of economic and societal change'. The research programme aims to support a number of key objectives including: strengthening the link between researchers and policy and practice; supporting knowledge transfer and improving the impact of analytical work; and encouraging inter-disciplinary and innovative working.

Other joint activities include the hosting of an international conference on taxation analysis and research (held in 2009 and 2011), and co-ordination of the International Tax Analysis Network, established to further dialogue and joint working.
