Understanding and Developing Inclusive Practices in Schools

This research network involves teams of researchers working in partnership with colleagues in three LEAs in order to support the development of inclusive practices. Schools in the Network will carry out a programme of action research in order to develop effective ways of increasing the participation and learning of all pupils, particularly those experiencing bathers to their learning. The central strategy will be to give support to the partner schools in achieving existing priorities within their school development plans. The starting point for these developments will be the expertise within the schools and there will an emphasis on teachers observing and reflecting on their practices in order to foster improvements. Staff in the partner schools will receive training and support in collecting and using evidence in relation to their development priorities. The research teams will assist and monitor these activities in order to achieve sustainable improvements in policies and practices. The aim will be to analyse these experiences and to disseminate the findings in ways that will be of benefit to other schools and LEAs. At the same time, it is also anticipated that the programme of research will contribute to the development of national policies
