IPO/ESRC/AHRC PLACEMENT FELLOWSHIP
- Start date: 01 September 2010
- End date: 31 March 2011
This placement fellowship places the researcher in the offices of the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) with the purpose of examining business models in the creative industries. New technologies are posing challenges to traditional business models.
This project will provide a business models and systems perspective on changes in the business models of the creative industries, focussing on three selected creative industries (computer games, music and film) with findings illustrated by a number of relevant case studies.
The growth in new technologies and digital distribution models poses a challenge to traditional business models and the role of copyright. The current system draws relatively clear lines between the producers and consumers of creative content, but changes to these lines will directly affect both the consumer and the producer.
This fellowship will investigate these changes and their role in shaping emerging business models to assess the value chain of content creation in the creative industries.
The project will categorise business models and develop recommendations for practitioners. This will better inform policy makers and provide valuable expertise for the Business Outreach branch of the IPO.
Note: The IPO is the government body responsible for granting Intellectual Property (IP) rights in the UK.
