Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL)

Deafness offers an exciting model for approaching questions on language origins, development and processes. DCAL will focus on modalities of communication (vocal, visuo-gestural) and the experiences of deaf people, via five themes:

- language processing
- face to face communication
- language development
- atypical sign language
- the deaf individual and the community

DCAL will also develop standard tests for sign language processing.
