The Bigger Picture

Social science research plays a vital role in our society. From big ideas to the most detailed observations, social science affects us all every day - at work, in school or college, within our communities, when exploring our identities and expressing our beliefs.

The Bigger Picture competition is an opportunity for 14-18 year olds to be creative by using photography to explore the relevance of social science to their life.

We’re challenging you to take a photo which shows 'the bigger picture' of society today, where you live or in the wider world. How do things like politics, education, climate change, healthcare, technology, migration, poverty affect you or others?  Your photo should fall into one of out five competition categories. In addition to your image we’d also like you to supply an imaginative title and explain the social science behind it in a supporting statement of up to 100 words.

This year we are inviting social media entries to the competition, allowing you to submit up to a further three photographs via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag #esrcphoto.
