Award-winning virtual dentistryThe Technology Enhanced Learning programme’s hapTEL project has won one of this year’s four Medical Futures awards. The project’s virtual dental work-station won the award for ‘Best Educational Innovation’. | BRASS project wins awardProject Bernie, a collaboration between the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Centre for Business Relationships Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) has won a CIPR Excellence Award from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). PeopleWe are sad to announce that pioneering sociologist Ray Pahl died on 3 June. Ray was a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Social and Economic Research and part of the team that established the British Household Panel Survey. He was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Sociological Association. Queen's Birthday Honours Professor Peter Elias, Strategic Advisor for Data Resources, and Professor Christopher Hood, director of the Public Services programme, were awarded CBEs for services to social science. ESRC Council member Dr Justin Davis Smith was awarded a CBE for services to the voluntary sector.
