New policy on grant resubmissions 

The ESRC will be moving to an Invited Only Resubmissions Policy from 1 June 2011. This means resubmission of any previously unsuccessful proposals will no longer be accepted from this date, unless applicants have been specifically invited to do so. Read more

Demand management consultation - deadline

The ESRC is welcoming responses from the social science community to our proposed programme of measures for improved self-regulation and changes to peer review and submission practices. The deadline for responses is 16 June 2011.

ESRC Council appointments

Four new members have been appointed to the ESRC Council:

  • Dr Justin Davis Smith, Chief Executive of Volunteering England, and Professor Simon Collinson, Warwick Business School, have been appointed for the period 1 April 2011-31 March 2014
  • Professor Stuart Croft, Warwick University, and Professor Glynis Breakwell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bath, have been appointed for the period 1 August 2011-31 July 2014.

Genomics playwright

The ESRC Genomics Forum has appointed Peter Arnott as its first Resident Playwright, in partnership with the Edinburgh Traverse Theatre. The venture aims to inspire the creation of a genomics related play.

Understanding Society /BHPS Conference

The first Understanding Society/British Household Panel Survey Conference will take place 30 June-1 July 2011 at the University of Essex. The conference will showcase early findings from Understanding Society and other longitudinal studies such as the British Household Panel Survey, now part of Understanding Society.

Professor Judith Rees, Director of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, was appointed Interim Director at the London School of Economics and Political Science from 2 May 2011.

Professor Alan Walker, Director of the New Dynamics of Ageing research programme, has been given an award for Advances in Gerontology and Geriatrics in the Social and Behavioural Sciences, by the European Region of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.
