Business and Local Government Data Research Centres
In Phase 2, since January 2014, we have been investing in Business and Local Government Data Research Centres. These Data Research Centres will make data, routinely collected by business and local government organisations, accessible for academics in order to undertake research in the social sciences of mutual benefit to data owners and in ways that safeguard individuals’ identities. The Centres, along with those from Phase 1, will make a significant contribution towards ensuring the future sustainability of the UK research competitiveness, supporting the UK in maximising its innovation potential and driving economic growth. The Directors of these Centres are:
- Urban Big Data Centre: Professor Piyushimita (Vonu) Thakuriah at the University of Glasgow
- ESRC Business and Local Government Data Research Centre: Professor Vania Sena at University of Essex
- Consumer Data Research Centre: Professor Mark Birkin at University of Leeds and Professor Paul Longley at University College London
The ESRC-funded UK Data Service at the University of Essex directed by Professor Matthew Woollard will provide support for, and facilitate coordination across these Centres.
